Good Morning! Happy Monday! Hope you're all having an amazing weekend! Just wanted to do a quick post about our small powder room remodel still-in-progress! For this makeover, we replaced linoleum flooring with ceramic tile that looks like reclaimed wood (which we carried into kitchen and mudroom), added white subway tile with dark gray grout, painted the walls, gave cabinets, shelving, and woodwork a fresh coat of white paint and new vintage butterfly shaped knobs. We wanted it to be modern with vintage touches and a french industrial feel, and to use all the built-in storage to our advantage.
The bathroom is super dinky, and is literally in the kitchen, and we think it may have served as a pantry at one time, so space planning was definitely a challenging, specifically when deciding between pedestal sink and a tiny vanity...we chose the pedestal sink, a cute modern faucet, and a skinny toilet, new fixtures etc, but again, having over-head shelving was definitely a plus for storage and organization in the powder room! We decorated the space with items I thrifted, painted, and already owned plus a couple new storage boxes from my new obsession, Hollar, an on-line dollar store with super high quality items, about which I will create a separate post. I also gave our old brown door, which we believe is original to the house, a fresh coat of aqua paint, which I'm absolutely in love with, and made a powder room sign to dress up the door!
We also painted the powder room walls several times before we settled on its current color, a gorgeous creamy light gray, which we used in our dining room. The color is called "Rhinestone" by Sherwin Williams, and it's so calming and delicious, like a milkshake! (It appears to be light green in the photos, due to the under-cabinet lighting)
We will soon be in the process of freshening up all the woodwork inside and out of the powder room with the brightest white we can possibly find, but for now...
Here is the before:
Pictured below is my 2 year old menace, filling cups with water, then dumping them all over the sink, spilling onto the floor - one of his normal disastrous rituals!
Look at these adorable cabinet knobs! Aren't they chic?
I created a shabby chic french mini vignette in the window, which have french curtains on the outside because it backs up to our mudroom.
Brown doors that have seen better days? No problem!
At first I didn't want to touch these doors, in original condition, but as it occurred to me that they could benefit from a makeover that would brighten and freshen up the whole space, I decided that a beautiful aqua door is just what the space needed, and would leave the bathroom and kitchen feeling more modern, airy, but still have a vintage cottagy feel. I may carry the color upstairs because I love how bright and beautiful, but still charming the door is.

Of course, no powder room is complete without a tiny froggy urinal. Thank you Jon Botbyl! In the words of Gordon Welsh, "there are good ideas, there are bad ideas, and then there's...this idea":
Hope you enjoyed our teeny powder room redo! Thanks for stopping by and please visit us again soon! God Bless!
